The ARRIBA Center

Situation
Summary background of the organization
This organization demonstrated a true DIRE need—imminent closure if something immediate was not done quickly to change things including funding, communications assistance, and overall support. They came to CreateAThon to satisfy the ommunications aspect so that they could
continue to serve disabled individuals from minority and ethnic backgrounds.

Obstacles
The communication challenges faced
The group’s current materials lacked a compelling presence or consistency.
The text needed focus and organization. They needed awareness-building elements that reflected their important work and communicated the group’s purpose to funding sources. Most importantly, the materials needed to reflect a sense of ongoing commitment to a growing, but largely unknown, issue.

Design Response
The steps and solution taken by the CreateAThon design team

To address these obstacles, the team decided to create a brochure in an unusual size and shape to stand out from other communication devices. A bold colors of purple and deep yellow was selected to not only stand out, but to reflect the diverse ethnicity of the program’s participants. The writing team polished a letter to Congress-people to accompany the package. A fact sheet and outreach flier rounded out the communication tools to be used by those served.
